John F. Kennedy School of Government (HKS) at Harvard University has appointed Issa S. Baluch to serve as member on the Dean’s Council. Douglas W. Elmendorf is current Dean of HKS. Geoffrey S. Kirkman Director of HKS stated “Baluch was invited to join the Harvard Kennedy School Dean’s Council as he demonstrated global leadership throughout his career.”
Baluch a prominent name in the global logistics industry, having pioneered the thriving Sea-Air combined transport multi-modal freight business that operated in the UAE. He currently serves as Chairman of First Hectares Capital, and Chairman of AKILI, the Agribusiness Knowledge and Innovation Leadership Initiative.
In 1989, he founded Swift Freight International, one of the top freight logistics providers in the Middle East, Asia & Africa. He helped found and served as President of the National Association of Freight Logistics (NAFL), and from 2003 to 2005 served as President of Zurich based International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
Baluch has authored two books, Transport Logistics: “Past, Present & Predictions” and Transport Logistics: “The Wheel of Commerce”.
In 2011, Baluch participated in the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative and became a Senior Fellow the following year. In 2016, Baluch was appointed visiting chair Professor of the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU). He also serves as Chairman of the FIATA Logistics Academy based in Zurich.
