Logistics veteran Issa Baluch recently received the Inspirational Male Leader Award from International Business Excellence Awards 2016, which was hosted by Awards International in partnership with the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, or DED, Cranfield School of Management and Sharjah Tatweer Forum. There were 26 category award winners on the day altogether. The categories included marketing, financial services, retail, customer experience and sustainability.
The two-day event included over 100 presentations given by finalists to panels of expert judges. The awards represent an annual programme aiming to recognise business excellence from across the world. As a means of supporting Dubai Expo and UAE Vision 2021, the IBX Awards will always be held in Dubai.
The award recognizes Baluch’s efforts in improving farming and agriculture in Ghana through his company Africa Atlantic Franchise Farms and its one-of-a-kind program called African Agribusiness Knowledge and Innovation Leadership Initiative (AKILI), which incidentally also won in the Opportunity/Entering Emerging Markets category.
Baluch is Chairman of Africa Atlantic, a 25,000-acre property along shores of Lake Volta that grows corn and tests other crops in Ghana. It employs about 120 staff during harvesting season and boasts of strong multinational business leadership and solid Ghanaian partnership.
AKILI is a division of Africa Atlantic that complements the organization’s mission to generate strong core commodity production to achieve key business objectives.
AKILI is a training hub that facilitates industry training of farmers as entrepreneurs, as well as innovation in sustainable economic, environmental and social impact designs.
